One of the most epic fishing trips that you can do it is big pike fishing in Spain. In this sunny country, you can choose different areas where pikes are swimming around, but there are not a lot places where big pikes over one meter are not something unusual right now.

The area of Guadiana river, in Extremadura is probably the most famous for pike fishing in Spain and because of that it is really pressured. Several years ago, some lakes were a paradise for big pikes but at this moment, probably, you will need to fish with a good pike fishing guide to know the friendly face of these waters. Anyway, these lakes are not the best to produce really big pikes right now although some of them have a good population of small-medium size.
There are also other lakes or rivers quite good for big pikes in Andalucía (Guadalquivir river), or C. Valenciana (Turia and Jucar Rivers) even in Catalonia and Basque Country.

And then, there are the northern lakes in Spain, mainly around Duero river; a fantastic option if you want to focus on catch a big pike. Lakes with much less pressure than the others and with a good population of healthy big pikes (* I am profesional fishing guide on these waters and I really know what I am talking about).
We are talking (without any doubt) about one of the best areas for monster pikes and with the best ratio lenght/weight in Spain. Maybe it is not the best place to catch a lot of pikes regularly, but it is to focus on catch the pike of your lifetime.

I do not like to talk about numbers but in a good periods of the year and good weather conditions, it is possible to catch at least one meter pike day by day and of course, there are some epics days with several one meter pikes on the boat. Pikes over ten kilos are always in the game and some monsters can break that line comfortably.
You can fish pikes in Spain throughout the year, although in my opinion, there are two periods more regular most of the years thinking in big ones. Spring, during the post-spawn period (they use to be quite shallow and you can fish them with very different ways and lures) and mainly in the end of autumn and winter, although there are years with good results in other periods.
